La constitución ontológica de la realidad virtual

Resumen

Con el presente trabajo hemos pretendido realizar una reflexión acerca del estatus ontológico de la realidad virtual. El objetivo general de este artículo es conocer si la fórmula de Barry Smith sobre los términos E independientes es plausible para entender la institucionalidad y los hechos institucionales virtuales. Para ello, hemos partido de la ontología de la realidad social que nos ofrece John R. Searle, basada en la regla constitutiva X cuenta como Y en el contexto C, y explorado la propuesta de Smith acerca de aquellas instituciones que carecen del objeto físico (bruto) sobre el cual se impone el estatus Y, cuestionando, así, la relación entre los términos X e Y de la regla constitutiva searliana. Seguidamente, a través de la obra de Johnny Hartz Søraker y, sobre todo de Philip Brey, hemos examinado la forma de existencia de las entidades, los objetos y las acciones en los entornos virtuales. Las principales conclusiones son: i) que las acciones en los entornos virtuales tienen consecuencias físico-mentales e institucionales y que los hechos institucionales virtuales contraen los mismos efectos deónticos que los realizados en las instituciones del mundo real. ii) La fórmula términos Y independientes no es exhaustiva para comprender el complejo entramado digital y sus vastos productos, pero es un enfoque válido para explicar la constitución ontológica de la realidad virtual.
