Estado liberal y la (re)distribución de los cuidados en las familias

Resumen

Desde las críticas feministas al liberalismo político y de las premisas del liberalismo igualitario, este trabajo presenta argumentos para justificar la intervención del Estado liberal en la distribución de las labores de cuidado en el interior de las familias. Asimismo, propone cuatro criterios para guiar la actuación estatal en la redistribución de los cuidados. Primero, el criterio de neutralidad que exige admitir y respetar las decisiones personales y familiares sobre los cuidados. Segundo, la autonomía y el desarrollo de capacidades que exige al Estado regular e intervenir para asegurar que todas las personas puedan libremente decidir cuidar y hacerlo bajo condiciones adecuadas. Tercero, la igualdad de oportunidades, que obliga a disminuir la discriminación en contra de las mujeres y propiciar su ciudadanía plena. Cuarto, y en última instancia, la compensación de los perjuicios causados por la injusta distribución de los cuidados.
